Optimize your Productivity with a Modern Computer Desk

Being a computer professional for many years, I have been afforded the luxury of working from home on a part-time basis. Since I have a personal computer as well as a company laptop, there are times when I need to access both of them. How I handled this situation in the past was to pull over a table and put it alongside my personal computer desk so that I could go back and forth between computers when needed (Before photo). As you can imagine, this setup was not optimal for using both computers during the same working session. Computer desks for home office use have flourished in recent years. What I discovered was that they all had certain features even though they didn’t all look the same.

One of those features was that they all seemed to have a pull out adjustable keyboard tray that will easily fit your keyboard and mouse alongside. If you only have a laptop you could even place the laptop by itself on the keyboard drawer. Another feature was that there were multiple levels for your computer components. One other attractive feature was that there always seemed to be plenty of room and no restrictions for the many cords that run from component to component and to your power source.

I visited a local Staples store since they had a number of different styles of home office desks that looked appealing to me. It was very reasonably priced (under $100) and the feature that I found extremely attractive was that it was a retractable desk that would allow me to place my work laptop a separate attached table without having to pull over a table to place it on. The difference that this modern computer desk has made in my productivity and organization in my home office is tremendous. With my previous setup everything seemed to be haphazardly strewn about the office and today everything has its place. I also love the fact that you can make this a very compact computer desk simply by retracting the table into the desk with no effort at all. As a result, I just feel so much more organized and my work flow from one computer to the other is a much smoother transition.

You certainly have to take technology into consideration when it comes to purchasing any office furniture these days. In fact, your computer may be the most important factor in what you buy for a desk for your work office or home office. The many designs and configurations that are out there are endless if you want to shop around for a modern computer desk. You don’t typically see the solid wood desk these days but more novel designs and materials like glass and acrylic desks, aluminum desks, and brightly colored multi-level modern computer desks. Whatever size, color, and configuration you are looking for, you are probably going to be able to find it.

A small modern computer desk may work better for you if you have limited space in your home office. A very popular configuration for work or office desks is the modern l shaped computer desk and the modern corner computer desk. These styles allow you to work at your computer and then give you some additional work space away from the computer where you can either read or write.

Technological features incorporated into a modern computer desk such as cord slots will keep the large array of power and computer cords from becoming a hazard. These styles also afford you additional storage either underneath the desk with a set of drawers or additional storage compartments on top of the desk.

The modern computer desk is available throughout the marketplace. If you are looking for a more affordable route if you own an office and need to furnish it quickly, you could opt for creating your own office computer desk using two file cabinets on either side for support and a piece of plywood, renting office furniture, or possibly buy modular office furniture. Whatever you decide to do, you should be able to find a myriad of various configurations, styles, and designs should easily fit into your work your home office setup.

Your options for a modern computer desk are entirely up to you and how far you want to search for the optimum configuration for your work space. Do what I did and find the perfect office computer desk for your home office. With the retractable table feature you can use it as a much larger desk or as a compact computer desk. You’ll find that not only will you be a much more organized and productive home office worker, but you’ll also look forward to heading into your home office each morning.
